File Access Using FTP or SFTP

  1. Enter the FTP / SFTP server hostname and port. Use the test connection button to verify successful login after completing the next step.
  2. Credentials, use the current default credentials or select other credentials to login the FTP / SFTP server. If using SSH authentication with key exchange, select the private key file.
  3. Select files using wildcards to select a subset of files in a directory or directories in a file path (if using the Select Folders Option).

    For example: c:\*.txt will bring up all files with the file extension of txt.

    -or-

    Select specific file(s).

  4. Click Next. The file selected in the previous window is carried over to the next wizard screen.
  5. From the drop-down list next to Comparison Type, select one of the following and then define the Test in the Select Test options that appear.

Description

FILE EXISTS

Select to create simple tests to check if files exist. If you use a wildcard then the test fails if no files match.

Note:  The Expected Response entries are not applicable.

FILE SIZE

Select to test the file size of the selected files.  You are able to set-up an Expected Response condition that checks for a specific file size.
For example:  Between 100 and 1000 bytes.

= to 1000 bytes.  

 

 

NUMBER OF FILES

 

Select to create a test to check the number of files in a folder. You are able to set up an Expected Response condition that checks for a specific file count.

For example:

>= 5 files

-OR-

between 8 and 10 files. You can optionally use Last Modified Date filtering.

 

LAST MODIFIED DATE

Select to compare the date when the selected files were last modified.  You are able to set up the following Expected Response conditions:

  • Date and time conditions.
    For example:
    A LAST MODIFIED DATEBetween10/25/2010 and 10/27/2010
    -OR-
    If you select the time option, a LAST MODIFIED DATE= to 10/25/2010 at 7:30:00 PM
  • If you select Use Current Date, the test is checking if the selected file(s) were last modified on the current date.
  • If you select Use Last, the test is checking if the selected file(s) were last modified in n Hours and/or n Minutes.
    For example:  Check if a file was modified in the last 30 Minutes.

 

  1. Select the Output Metric check box, and then select the output metric that you want to use for this Test.
  2. Click Next. The Test Definition page appears.
  3. Edit the Resource Name, Test Description or Expected Response as necessary.
  4. Click Run Test to run the current test.  The Test Result dialog returns the result of your test.
  5. Close the Test Result dialog, and click Add Test to add the current test to the named Resource.  The File Access Wizard dialog confirms whether your test was created successfully.
  6. Select the Turn on Debug Messages check box if necessary.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Next.  The final window is displayed.
  9. Click Finish.  The Left Navigational Pane shows the new Resource and Test.
