Using the ODBC Connection Wizard

The ODBC Connection wizard helps you add a Resource to a Monitor that tests the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection to a database.

To test the ODBC connection to a database using the ODBC Connection wizard, follow these steps:

  1. From the Add Monitor Tests Using Wizard dialog, select ODBC Connection Wizard, and click OK. The ODBC Connection Wizard window appears.
  2. Click Next.  The ODBC Connection Properties wizard page appears.
  3. Under Web Server, enter the name of the Web server performing the Test.
  4. Under Data Source Name (DSN), enter the name of the data source you want to test the connection. Enter a value or select a value from a list of available Data Source Names.
  5. (Optional)  Under User Name, enter the name of the user used to log on to the data source.
(Optional)  Under Password, enter the password used to log on to the data source.
(Optional)  Under Confirm Password, enter the password again.
  6. Select Encrypt User Name and Password to encrypt this data in the registry. This prevents the data from being displayed in scripts or other Reveille windows.
  7. Click Next.  The Test Definition wizard page appears.
  8. Under Resource Name, enter the name of the Monitor Resource associated with this Test.
Under Test Description, enter a description of the current Test.
  9. Select Auto-generate Resource Name to automatically generate the Resource Name based on the Host Name.
  10. Select Run Test to run the current Test. The Test Result dialog appears.
  11. Close the Test Result dialog, and click Add Test.  The ODBC Connection Wizard dialog appears.
  12. Click OK, and then click Next. The final page appears.
  13. Click Finish.

The Left Navigational Pane shows the new Resource and Test.
